Development Update #1902

Here are some DNS-OARC development highlights from the past couple of months. These updates are usually bi-monthly and previous ones are available on our Medium blog.

dnsperf v2.2.1

dnsperf found a new home this year at DNS-OARC and we are excited to be continuing to maintain it. Our thanks to Nominum/Akamai for the many years of developing dnsperf. Release v2.2.1 comes with a rework of the code to use autotools, semantic versioning 2.0 and bugfixes pulled from other’s forks.

dsc v2.8.0

This release brings a new indexer `response_time` (funded by NIC.AT), support for MaxMind DB (GeoIP2) and an option to set the DNS port.

The new indexer `response_time` can track queries and report the time it took to receive the response in buckets of microseconds or in logarithmic scales (see `response_time_mode`). It will also report timeouts, missing queries (received a response but have never seen the query), dropped queries (due to memory limitations) and internal errors.

dsc-datatool v0.04

This release includes package dependency fixes and updated Grafana
example dashboards.

dnsjit v0.9.7 and drool v1.99.4

The dnsjit release comes with fixes for `dnsjit.output.tcpcli` and a new `dnsjit.output.tlscli`. The drool release fixes the `--timing` option which previously only worked with `keep`. Both are available as packages in the pre-release channels.

A reminder about privacy

Just want to remind everyone about the five new plugins for dnscap that can do various IP anonymization and deanonymization (funded by Verisign).
The methods to do this have been taken from the RSSAC040 “Major Proposals for Methods of Anonymizing IP Addresses”.
